Tell us about your first Freshwalks?

I was a bit nervous about spending a day with people I had never met, but as soon as I stepped on the train and sat down, people started chatting. By the time we got to Glossop, I knew it was going to be a good day… and it was!

How many have you now attended?

15-20.

Why do you come back?

The people first and foremost, as no one I have ever met has been a ‘swerve’. Secondly, the challenge of the tough ones. Thirdly a ‘clear the head day’ away from the office.

What’s your favourite route?

Loved the Edale, Grindsbrook, Jacobs Ladder, Edale route.

The one thing (food or equipment) you always bring?

Water. I go through 3 litres in any walk.

Favourite Freshwalks memory?

A very wet, windy, cold, low cloud day up on Kinder. Everyone was desperate for cover and people were flagging all over the place, but we were all keeping each other going with humour and piss-taking… Summed up Freshwalks right there. Brilliant!

Has Freshwalks created a business success story or opportunity for you or a colleague?

Yes, I have now signed up several Freshwalkers as clients… and some of their contacts too.

Recommend three great people you have met on Freshwalks?

It’s tough, because everyone is great who I have met for different reasons. However, if it is to recommend for what they do and I can vouch for it then: Andy Ramwell (Coaching), Andy Hall (Mentoring), Tamsin Caine (IFA).

How does Freshwalks challenge typical networking formats?

There is nowhere to hide. You can walk out of a bad networking event, but here you are bang at it and everyone is in the same boat, so everyone works together and gets along.

Freshwalks is a combination of exercise, networking, sharing knowledge and thinking time. How do you balance those components?

Sometimes badly. Being of a rotund sort, it depends at what stage of the walk we are at whether I can network due to thinking about getting to the top without passing out!!

Suggest one new place for us to go.

No idea.

Sum up Freshwalks in 3 words.

Laughter, climbing, laughter.
